An Elbow for the Ages

The game itself wasn't that exciting, other than a 5 minute period where Dook wasn't looking exhausted and getting blown out of Chapel Hill, but as with the vast majority of Dook/UNC games it pays to stick around to the end. For all of you who left the game or your couches before the final buzzer, you missed a moment in the Dook/UNC rivalry that will be talked about for a while and will affect at least 1 ACC Tourney game.

With :14.5 seconds to go in Chapel Hill, the game was out out of hand. Down by over 10 pts a shot went up on the UNC end of the court and coming down from the rebound attempt, Tyler Hansbrough caught the business end of Gerald Henderson's elbow. . .and it was a good one. Blood everywhere, Hansbrough pissed and looking like he just went 6 rounds. It looked "incidental" enough that they may just call it an accident, but I thought otherwise and after looking at the replay, so did the officials. They ejected Henderson and suspended him for 1 game for a "combative foul".

I'm still trying to find out what the deal is with the nose injury, but Hansbrough will probably at least be wearing one of those plastic face guards next week. With any luck, it'll throw off his game. Dook on the other hand has a problem. They'll be playing without Gerald Henderson in their first round game and could find it tough going. They're short handed already.

God I love March.

Unfortunately, the win by UNC ensures that my beloved Terrapins will indeed have to play a Thursday game, forcing them to win 4 games in a row to take the ACC Tourney title. More to come on all of that.

Hey Rich,

Sweet blog. Leinee sent me the link and it has killed a good 20 minutes of my day so far. Thanks. I appreciate the Bruin support.
